Adaptation and Mitigation Measures Online Workshop for Sardignia, Italy

On July 7, 2026, from 10:00 to 12:00, within the framework of the INCORE-MED project, IUAV organised an online participatory workshop on adaptation and mitigation measures as part of the SWAP methodology. The event brought together stakeholders from public institutions, research, private organisations, associations and civil society to discuss climate change challenges and strengthen inclusive coastal resilience in the coastal and maritime territory of North-Eastern Sardinia.

The workshop introduced the catalogue of adaptation and mitigation measures developed for the Sardinia pilot, focusing on key climate risks such as sea acidification and rising sea temperatures. Participants explored three main categories of action: climate-sensitive policies, climate-resilient areas, and nature-based solutions. Through presentations and interactive sessions facilitated by a purposefully designed app, stakeholders were invited to assess and prioritise the proposed measures according to their urgency and feasibility.

Discussions addressed climate risks, governance, monitoring, ecosystem restoration and interactions between different maritime uses. Participants highlighted the importance of strengthening knowledge and coordination among stakeholders, while also emphasising the protection and restoration of marine ecosystems, particularly Posidonia oceanica. The interactive format supported dialogue among different perspectives and helped identify measures considered most relevant and actionable for the local context.

The results of the workshop will feed into the next stages of the SWAP process, contributing to the development of future climate scenarios and adaptation pathways for North-Eastern Sardinia. The evaluations collected through the interactive sessions, together with the discussions and stakeholder perspectives, will help refine and prioritise the measures to be considered in the subsequent stages of the participatory process.
